Bail denied for Taame and Rangi - again!

in

The Court of Appeal has denied a bail application by Taame Iti and Te Rangikaiwhiria Kemara this morning. The appeal for Taame, Rangi, Emily and Urs was heard in the Court of Appeal. The four are appealing against sentence and conviction. Taame and Rangi received a 2.5 year jail sentence that they are currently serving at Waikeria and Spring Hill prison.

This is already the second bail application the two have made. The judge said this morning:

With the benefit now of having seen the relevant material and having heard the submissions on the appeal, we are satisfied the matters now raised do not alter the conclusion reached earlier, that is, that bail is not in the interests of justice. Obviously, the extent to which the matters now relied on by the applicants are accepted and their impact, if any, is a matter for our ultimate decision. However, none of these matters causes us to consider the position has changed.

This is another injustice on the 5-year journey. Free Taame and Rangi!
