The Hikoi in Auckland

in

Description

Yesterday a Hikoi to Stop the Marine and Coastal Areas Act marched up Queen Street in the Auckland city centre. It began with a few short speeches and karakia in front of Britomart shopping mall. Some of the words said expressed disappointment in the relatively low numbers of participants. There were around 150 people, Maori and Pakeha walking up Queen Street with banners and flags. The Hikoi stopped at Myers park and more speeches followed. There were very broad but clear connections drawn between Tino Rangatiratanga struggles and sustainability, as well as neo liberalism and oppression of indigenous people around the world. The speeches stemmed from disappointment and disillusion in the current position of the Maori party – naming its coalition with the national party as a betrayal of Tino Rangatiratanga principles - to calls for an uprising against the government inspired by the current situation in the Middle East and North Africa.

Dark before the Dawn

Well, 150 is not much to be proud of, is it.

But Jesus Christ seized control of all the world with only 12.

Keep it up ... never give up ... do what is right ... stay righteous, stay staunch, blessed in the Grace of God.

Use your 150  wisely.  Musicians, dancers, theatre, entertainment ... these will form the safe and secure culturally acceptable basis for forming your army of active rebellion.  The secrets within an army in the field are kept within the army. But the right a of people to associate and gather in large numbers to have beach parties cannot be controlled by our government, only monitored.

And we must rise to challenge them.

Days of joy and honour are here!  Our grandchildren shall remember us in our glory.

War is here. And for you, it'll probably just be a lot of fun.  Out of 1000 maybe only 50 or so will see any grief.  March every bloody day, not once in a blue moon. Make the spirits of our ancestors proud. Shame the enemy with our resolve.

Kia toa!
