Wellington Police Photographers

in

The police employ photographers that are often used on political marches and similar activities so that they can identify and develop files on actvisits. Below are the photos of two Wellington police photographers.

The first was last seen at an anti-war demo to mark the 2nd anniversary of the Iraq war earlier on this year, which is where the photo was taken.

The second has been seen regularly since, including at the anti-Labour Party protests and at the recent student demo, which is where the photo was taken.

Re: Wellington Police Photographers

Are they related?

Re: Wellington Police Photographers

if the police hold a file on me as an activist, what are my rights in law with respect to being able to look at the contents of this file?

Re: Wellington Police Photographers

umm the second one is definatly from the herald and is based in wellington I think the first is from sunday star times

Re: Wellington Police Photographers

sory first one isn't from sun star

Re: Wellington Police Photographers

often times they are just hired photographers. as you can imagine there wont be enough work to keep 2 photographers fulltime employed, so these sorry ass pricks will be working for more than just the cops.

Re: Wellington Police Photographers

working for the police, or actually police. whats the difference?......very little i should think.

bear in mind private investigaters have turned up with cameras to demos too (not sure if thats the case in welligton, but in other cities thats happened)

Re: Wellington Police Photographers

The first one was seen actually being dragged along by a senior police dude at one protest, being told which people to get photos of. I've seen the second one at several protests as well, and he's always taking pictures of the crowd with a zoom lens, never of 'the action', which is what you'd expect if he were working for a paper.

Re: Wellington Police Photographers

Yeah, the second one was definitely working for the cops at the student demo. I was almost arrested for not being behind the fence (even tho I was!) and when I stepped back and was taking a few photos that guy had his camera aimed straight at me taking several shots. There was no way that was going to be a 'good' photo, cos all I was doing was perched on a wall with a camera in front of my face. Then afterwards he tried to get photos of my mates after I went back to them.

But it wouldn't surpise me if they just hire freelance photographers who also do newspapers and stuff.

Re: Wellington Police Photographers

"these sorry ass pricks will be working for more than just the cops."
If that is correct then it's a big issue that should be taken up with the press council - especially if that concept extends to freelance journalists as well. How can you trust a reporter if he/she may also be doing "freelance work" for the cops?

But how do you know these photographers actually work for the cops? Have they said that to anyone or has anyone seen them hand over their films/memory cards to the cops?

Re: Wellington Police Photographers

Damien, all police files on yourself can be accessed using the Official Information Act and the Privacy Act. Call them and ask if you can have copies and they should tell you the process.

Re: Wellington Police Photographers

Relax, the left is getting so paraniod. I'm sure they are just using the photos for cutting and pasting to add to their extensive porn collections.

Re: Wellington Police Photographers

the Official info act will not get you all your police files
your criminal record is available if you request it, but the police intel files on activists are not public. they will be withheld under section 6c of the Official Info act, which allows for information to be withheld if releasing the info would "prejudice the maintenance of the law, including the prevention, investigation and detection of offences"
so the only chance you have of seeing any intelligence files and photos about you is if it is released as disclosure in a court case.

Re: Wellington Police Photographers

"so the only chance you have of seeing any intelligence files and photos about you is if it is released as disclosure in a court case."

As happened recently... 50 or 60 photos of activists from around Wellington dating back only a couple of months were made public. And they all look so gosh darn purty! ;-)

Re: Wellington Police Photographers

They have huge collections of photos which they are keeping secret (and cannot be seen with an OIA request) - I have seen them. Massive clearfile-type folders with one picture per page. I saw 3 with over 100 photos in each, and I'm sure there's more.

Re: Wellington Police Photographers

yea Im sure the one in the cap and glo jacket in the 2nd photo is from the police

Re: Wellington Police Photographers

they are contracted by Police Intelligence, an unsanctioned and relatively unknown dept within the NZ Police.

Main base is Otahuhu Auckland. P.I have been building a profiles database of who's who for many years now, mapping out who is talking to who, who is working with who, etc etc.

Paranioa gallore with that lot there...

Sometimes these photographers are not so visible as these two are. Either way, best to just deny them access to your faces, mask up and spray paint their lenses.

Re: Wellington Police Photographers

I was, i guess you could say preventing the first photographer from taking pics at a demo when i had 3 cops come and push me away. He then tried to take more pics and i again got in the way i was told i was obstructing police and could be arrested, he works for the cops!!!! Also at the end of that demo we had a we scuffel and 1 of the cops hit me and removed my mask and i noticed that same prick waiting to get a happy snap of my face.
The second i have seen a few times and he is not so interested in the actual demo as the people present, he looks to similar, maybe slightly older and more stressed cause he knows his soul is gone.......

fuck this time to get several different masks and some different cloths.

peace

Re: Wellington Police Photographers

the first one mabye a cop but the second one is a STAFF photographer for the herald and is their only one based in wellington.

Re: Wellington Police Photographers

someone said "50 or 60 photos of activists from around Wellington dating back only a couple of months were made public".
er, that may have happened but they certainly havent been made public as very few activists have seen or heard of this. if this is true you might want to let the people in the photos know for a start..

Re: Wellington Police Photographers

the photos arr related to a court case, so i guess that is not totally public.

Re: Wellington Police Photographers

You are all wrong.
They are both Aussies and are currently seconded to a secret service organisation.

Re: Wellington Police Photographers

I know this second guy, I used to go to Uni with him. His name is George (cant remember his last name) and when I saw him last year he told me he works for a secret branch of Parliament now. All I can remember about him is that he used to collect and photograph bugs and he lived in Johsonville.

Re: Wellington Police Photographers

No Pure Karma you are wrong, I know this guy, his name is George, but he is a total homo, pretends he works for the Government, is unemployed but has Police mates who let him hang out with them, but he usually doesnt have any film in his camera. And he lives in Newtown not Johnsonville. He does photograph bugs though.

Re: Wellington Police Photographers

You're all wrong these two photos are actually the same guy with a different styled wig on, he works for sports illustrated and is known for his ability to present many different disguises.Ive seen him on a number of occasions with an elvis haircut and merv hughs moustache

Re: Wellington Police Photographers

Your all talking shit man, the guy with the wig and the mostache is his father who also works for the Government in Intelligence, but by day he works in the Newtown Fish & Chip shop disguised as a greek guy. Hence the mostache. Does'nt convince me though, as he cant cook chips for shit, and he cant sing either.

Re: Wellington Police Photographers

They both look too old and fat to be cops but never the less these sorry ass pricks are working and paying their taxes. Are you?

Re: Wellington Police Photographers

Hey I say these guys are fine with me. They earn money and pay their taxes (all for my education and later on my dole !), take some photos of us, yep!, gives me reason to get up in the morning and shave my eyebrows (and polish my nose ring) Got to look my most mutant.!!

Good on them and all the cops !!! Think about it, what would we all do without them !!

Re: Wellington Police Photographers

Hey, Free Mandela, you gotta no respect, it's me the Greek guy, I cook damn good chips, I bet you the one who got your damn chips last time and damn run out the shop and dont pay. You shuttupa your face!. I sing great.

Re: Wellington Police Photographers

Dad!, it's me George!, get the chips on, I'm on my way home. I got some great photos of two hairy spiders, a cockroach and a protestor. Must go, might miss the bus to Newtown.

P.S. (If I come in the shop, pretend you dont know me, I have reason to beleive I am being spied on by some radical group that post pictures and invade peoples privacy.)(I may need to borrow your mostache... talk later...)
